When You Look Fine on the Outside… But Feel Empty Inside

From the outside, I looked fine.


I showed up.

I did what I was supposed to do.

I kept everything together.


But inside…

I felt like a walking empty shell.

Disconnected from myself.

From my body.

From my emotions.

It was like I was existing — but not really living.


The hardest part wasn’t even the exhaustion.

It was the quiet realization that… I didn’t recognize myself anymore.


I couldn´t feel myself.


Somewhere along the way, I had become who I thought everyone else needed me to be.


Responsible. Strong. Capable. Always available.


But I had lost me in the process.


And for a long time, I was tired of being and feeling different.


But what I came to understand was this:

There was never anything wrong with me.

I had just been living in a way where there was no space left for me.


That’s what burnout can look like.

Not always dramatic. Not always visible. But quiet. Heavy. And deeply disconnecting.


Healing didn’t start when I tried harder.

It started when I slowed down.

When I stopped abandoning myself in the small, everyday moments.

When I began listening inward again.

Gently and without pressure.
